Former Justice Minister Michael McDowell has said he believes “very strongly” in completing the Thornton Hall prison project, arguing that the site is needed to address Ireland’s longstanding prison capacity issues.
In an exclusive interview with Gript this week, the Independent Senator described Dublin’s Mountjoy prison as “a 19th-century, utterly outdated, utterly unsuitable institution – drug-ridden, violence-ridden, and overcrowded to an appalling degree.”
