Gardaí are conducting an investigation into the death of a woman in her 20s following an “fatal assault” at a residence in Midleton, County Cork today.
Emergency Services and Gardaí were called to an apartment near Main Street in Midleton at approximately 4:15 pm., whereupon they discovered the woman with critical injuries. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, she was declared dead shortly after their arrival.
A man in his 30s has been taken into custody in relation to the incident and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Southern Region.
The Garda Technical Bureau has secured the scene for a thorough examination, and notifications have been made to the local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist. An incident room has been established at Midleton Garda Station, with a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) assigned to lead the case. Additionally, a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) is providing support to the deceased’s family.
Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant camera footage, including dashcam videos from the Connolly Street and Main Street areas of Midleton on that afternoon, to come forward.
