A man in his 30s arrested as part of a murder investigation in Co. Cavan last week has since been charged and has appeared in court this morning.
Last Saturday night, Gardaí began investigating a “serious incident” which occurred at a rural house near Ballyconnell in Co. Cavan. A woman in her 50s was pronounced dead at the scene, and police subsequently opened a murder investigation, with the woman’s body being taken to Cavan General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, a man in his 60s was “seriously injured” and taken to hospital for treatment on the night. He remains in a “serious but stable condition”.
The scene was preserved for technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The man in his 30s was arrested at a separate location, and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Co. Cavan area. He has now been charged and has appeared in Monaghan District Court this morning at 10:00 am.
