While I am in favour of the EU having a Special Envoy for the Promotion of Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) outside the EU, a position recently filled by Ireland’s own Mairead McGuinness, to say that she has an uphill battle on her hands would be an understatement.
That is because, aside from the fact that this fundamental freedom is threatened in a growing number of countries across the globe, it is a freedom that the European Union itself has an increasingly patchy record on.
