A key Catholic figure in the Holy Land has said that while Christians are few in number in the region, they have a vital role to play in bringing the warring peoples together.
Speaking today at a press conference organised by the pontifical charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa said that for the Holy Land’s inhabitants, the regional divide was deepened immensely by the events of October 7, 2023, which saw Hamas and other Palestinian nationalist groups launch an armed incursion into the regions of southern Israel surrounding Gaza.
