Broadcaster Niall Boylan has launched his bid for a place on the European Parliament with a campaign launch this afternoon in Dublin.
The veteran radio host announced this week that he would be leaving his Classic Hits FM radio show to run as an MEP for fledgling party, Independent Ireland.


The Dubliner has been billed as the “common sense candidate” for the European elections by the Party, which was started by TDs Michael Collins and Richard O’Donoghue at the end of last year.
In a promotional launch video posted on Tuesday, Mr Boylan said: “I’m talking to people every single day […] and they’re sick of the government.”
“I love this city, I love Ireland, I love the craic, I love the céad míle fáilte that it’s offered us for thousands of years – but we need change,” the radio presenter said.
“And over the last four years in particular, I’ve noticed those callers are getting angrier and very frustrated. Because they feel voiceless. They’re listening to a government that are not listening to them; an opposition party that don’t seem to oppose.
“They’ve ignored us on so many things; so many important issues,” the broadcaster said.
Mr Boylan admitted that while it was “sad” to walk away from a job in radio he loves, he is willing to “risk everything to make a difference.”
