Gardaí are investigating an incident where shots were fired at a group of teenagers in Clonmel yesterday evening, in an incident which was described as ‘terrifying’.
A garda spokesperson said “Gardaí were dispatched to a residential location in the Clonmel area of Co. Tipperary yesterday evening, Monday 25th September 2023 at approximately 8.40pm, following a 999 call from a member of the public.”
“The assistance of the Garda Armed Support Unit was requested and subsequently arrived to the scene to respond to the incident.”
“No injuries were reported. Enquiries are ongoing.”
A family member of one of the teenagers told Gript that the situation was “crazy” and that the youngsters involved were “shocked and scared”.
“”It was crazy. The kids were just out strolling around, and walked past a lane. A rock was thrown from inside a ditch. They threw it back. Then a tall man comes out with a black mask on and opened fire. They said it was a large shotgun.”
“They all ran for their lives. No exaggeration. One of the girls told me the noise from the gun blast was terrifying,” he said.
