Conor McGregor has renewed his promise to run for President of Ireland while visiting Washington DC in anticipation of the inauguration of US President elect, Donald Trump.
The MMA star, who a jury at the High Court found culpable for the rape of a woman in 2018, said that he would be running for office during an exchange with a young man at a party which was caught on video.
Asked, “Are you gonna make Ireland great again?” McGregor answered, “Yes”.
Tweeting about his DC visit, he said, “Honour to be in Washington, D.C., to support @realDonaldTrump, the newly elected leader of the free world, and to stand with the 13 families who lost their loved ones at Abbey Gate”
McGregor was pictured alongside Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, at a pre-inauguration rally held on Sunday.
The 36-year-old posted the snap to his 10.6 million X followers with the caption, “We are so back!”.
The Crumlin native posted a message to his followers saying, “A whole imperial army couldn’t do it, you think a bunch of weaklings importing a bunch of wasters can do it?”
Adding, “Think again. IRELAND FOREVER #VoteMcGregor”.
McGregor was also captured on video exchanging words with incoming US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.
As Gript previously reported, in 2021 McGregor slammed the Irish government as “lap dogs” of the EU, adding that Ireland has “stockholm syndrome” to the bloc and that “economic partnership should not mean political surrender.”
The previous week he tweeted that it was “time to talk about Ireland leaving the European Union.”
At the time Ben Scallan reported a response from Gael TD Neale Richmond, an outspoken supporter of the EU, who responded to the sports star by using McGregor’s own catch-phrase: “You’ll do nuttin’.”
“Economic partnership should not mean political surrender,” replied McGregor.
“Bailed out and locked in we were, and it was handily done. Lenihan was threatened and folded. Stockholm syndrome comes to mind.”
McGregor went on to state that “forced vaccinated is a war crime,” responding to EU President Ursula Von Der Leyen’s call for mandatory vaccination across the bloc.
One anonymous user accused McGregor of talking “complete drivel” and told him to “stick to MMA.”
“You think forcing people to inject something into their body is not a crime?” the UFC star replied.
“People must have the right to choose. An attempt to mandate vaccine is coming, per the head of the EU. I cannot agree to this. I know our lap dogs in power will just do as they are told.”
