A three-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in the underground car park of Charlestown Shopping Centre in Finglas this morning.
The tragic incident, which took place this morning, left the child fighting for his life at Temple Street before he sadly passed away later this afternoon. He had been treated by paramedics after emergency services rushed to the scene.
Shortly after 8:40am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports that a young child had been struck by a car in the underground car park. The child was transported by ambulance to Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) with critical injuries.
Gardaí said this evening that a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to support the family at this time.
The scene is preserved and a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators is being carried out.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward, with the force particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the Dublin 11 shopping centre car park between 8.20am and 9.00am this morning.
Anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the Charlestown area this morning at that time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing.
