A letter claiming to contain Anthrax has been sent to Iona Institute CEO, David Quinn, he revealed in a post on social media.
In a post on X, Mr Quinn shared a picture of the letter, which he captioned: “Received in the post today. Nice.”
A picture accompanying the post shows a piece of paper with “Happy Anthrax” scrawled across the top, and written beneath the names of Mr Quinn and a reference to one of the Iona Institute’s patrons, Irish Times columnist Breda O’Brien.
“Bitch O’Brein,” the author wrote.
Gathered on the letter is a white powder of unknown origin and nature.
Anthrax is a potentially fatal, but rare, disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis.
It is frequently the subject of hoaxes, which see white powder sent in letters or containers falsely suggesting the presence of anthrax.
The most well-known instance of anthrax poisoning is the 2001 series of anthrax attacks, which saw letters containing anthrax spores mailed to a number of media and political figures in the United States.
It resulted in the death of five people and the infection of a further 17.
Update to follow.
