Pet theft is a problem that afflicts no small number of people in Ireland, if campaigner Lisa O’Connor’s 16,000-strong Facebook group, ‘Missing/Stolen Animals Ireland’ is anything to go by. While the majority of activity in the group relates to beloved animals that have wandered off or otherwise gone missing, there are no small number of alerts for stolen pets too.
Indeed, it was out of the second, more nefarious category that the group was born. Speaking with Gript, Lisa said that as a former Cocker Spaniel owner, she couldn’t help but be moved by the plight of a local girl just as the pandemic was getting underway, at which time her spaniel and pups were stolen, taken straight from the garden.
