A leading academic has told politicians that many children’s Irish language skills “never recovered from Covid” in the wake of the lockdown.
Speaking during the Joint Committee on Education and Youth last week, Mary Immaculate College’s vice-president of academic affairs Professor Niamh Hourigan said she would be “more concerned” about the students entering the education system today and their Irish abilities compared to their predecessors.
