Dún Laoghaire District Court has heard that a woman with a long history of “mental health issues” is currently homeless as she waits on the social housing list.
The 43-year-old woman was brought before Judge Mark O’Connell after she was arrested on Main Street, Dundrum.
The court heard that the woman was arrested yesterday, 16th of September, “for the third time this week” and “the second time this morning”, according to Gardaí.
The woman was defended by Berna Kennedy BL, who was instructed by solicitor Andrew Vallely.
Ms Kennedy told the court that her client is currently ordered to stay out of Dundrum apart from signing on at the Garda station on Tuesdays and Fridays.
She added that her client is a woman who has “struggled with mental health issues practically all her life” and has received a diagnosis of PTSD and BPD (borderline personality disorder).
The woman, Ms Kennedy said, was previously a patient at a mental health facility in Dublin but has been discharged and, owing to the death of both her parents, now has “limited family support”.
The court heard that the woman had her “medical regimen” changed about a year ago and that her mental health has suffered “significant deterioration” since then.
She has no previous convictions.
When Judge O’Connell asked if the woman was availing of emergency accommodation, Ms Kennedy said, “She is not in emergency accommodation; she is on the list for social housing, but she is homeless at the moment .”
Gardaí, consenting to bail, requested that the woman be further ordered to stay out of Dundrum apart from signing on, that she provide a phone number within 24 hours, and that she undertake to keep seeing her current psychiatrist.
