Fewer than 72,000 people have registered to vote in Ireland’s new Seanad Higher Education constituency despite an estimated eligible electorate of up to a million, in what the electoral commission has warned requires a “major further push” to resolve.
In its first oversight report on the register published this morning, the electoral commission called for ten key reforms to boost sign-ups ahead of the next election to ensure the “historic reform” succeeds.
