The HSE has advised the public on the dangers of “internalised weight bias”, while directing people towards an NGO that claims obesity stigma is based on the “misconception that obesity is a choice.”
In guidance published on the HSE website, the executive states that weight bias exists because of a “poor understanding of the causes of obesity” and can lead to people experiencing feelings of “shame, guilt and anxiety.”
