Migrants seeking Irish citizenship should be required to pass language and “civic integration” tests to ensure they have a “genuine commitment” to Irish society, Sinn Féin has said.
In a statement issued today, a Sinn Féin TD said that the process of acquiring citizenship must recognise those who have permanently “integrated into Irish society.”
Cavan-Monaghan TD Matt Carthy, who is Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, said that the naturalisation system should be treated with greater “seriousness.”
