The Association of Lactation Consultants in Ireland (ALCI) has said it will go ahead with its annual conference online, instead of in person as previously advertised, after sustained public backlash over its inclusion of a speaker who previously spoke about lactation for “kinksters”.
The body defended its inclusion of the speaker, saying it is “committed to supporting lactation professionals to provide respectful, individualised and evidence-informed care to all families who seek breastfeeding and lactation support” and that “Our decision to include education on diversity and gender within our professional programme is grounded in this responsibility.”
