There is something deeply unnerving about the sight of thousands of illegal male migrants cutting through the water to get to a Spanish territory and therefore having access to the EU. One Spanish reporter, attempting to hold her ground amid the chaos in Ceuta reported “The situation in Ceuta is completely out of control … They’re swimming across that border. Some are also crossing on foot … there are thousands of them. [The] unofficial figure — about 5,000 people, but that number is likely even higher.”
She repeats that among the crowd there were many women and children, for some reason, the camera didn’t pick that up. Eventually, the reporter is cut off as the migrants celebrate in front of the camera.
