Brussels is planning to use state-run social media to combat privately-owned services operated by US tech companies, a leaked document has revealed.
The European Commission memo — which was marked “sensitive” and “need to know” — bemoans the growing power of American and Chinese companies across the digital space, arguing that the EU must act to assert its “tech sovereignty” both at home and abroad.
