Officials from the European Commission will negotiate on Ireland’s behalf ahead of a planned delegation of the Taliban to Brussels to discuss international aid and the repatriation of failed asylum seekers.
The Department of Justice confirmed to Gript that Ireland will be represented by the EU Commission in discussions with “de facto Afghan officials” with the government previously pledging to deport Afghan nationals posing “a threat to public order or national security” in a joint letter last year.
