The Department of Housing “does not currently compile or seek” nationality data for the Help to Buy scheme or related housing grants, according to an internal document raising concerns, seen by Gript, despite warnings about potential large-scale misuse.
The scheme is a government incentive designed to assist first-time buyers to claim back income tax and DIRT paid over the previous four years. The document obtained through freedom of information explicitly confirms it does not collate nationality or citizenship data centrally.
