The abuse of language schools to circumvent migration law has been a notable feature of Ireland’s post-crash immigration story, as well as our very urban life itself.
If figures can be believed, the Republic of Ireland hosted 128,700 international students in 2024. This is on top of the 40,000 or so foreign students in tertiary education, with the Department of Further Education confirming to Gript that the state issued just under 60,000 stamp 2 study visas in 2025 alone.
