I find that the Government reserves its strongest words for uppity citizens. For those who, despite their many contributions, have the temerity to disagree with the prevailing zeitgeist in Merrion Street and elsewhere. Whether it be economics or immigration policy, push back hard enough, even though peaceably, and you’ll quickly find yourself out of favour.
That is why the gloves are off as far as the Government is concerned, both rhetorically and measures-wise, in dealing with the ongoing fuel protests. The gardaí have enlisted the Defence Forces to get their help in putting an end to what Tánaiste Simon Harris referred to last night as a “sinister and despicable attack” on the economy and on society.
