A Dublin man has been remanded in custody, pending sentencing in April, after he pleaded guilty to charges of coercive control contrary to Section 39 of the Domestic Violence Act 2018, on dates between the 23rd of May 2021 and the 12 of December 2022, in respect of a woman with whom he had been in a relationship.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, told the woman, who came to Ireland from the US, that he was a successful musician, that he owned property in London, that he was ill and needed to be taken care of, that his bank account had been frozen, and that both his parents were dead, all for the purpose of deceiving her into financially supporting him, the court heard.
