For practising Catholics like myself, last Thursday was one of the most significant days in the year: a day in which we celebrate the coming of the man who we believe to be the Son of God, and the saviour of the world.
In this day and age, we often hear phrases like “Christmas is about family”, or “what makes Christmas special is being with the people you love”. Without a doubt, spending time with family around Christmas is a good thing, and ‘tis certainly the season of good will toward men. However, we should not allow the tinsel and decorations to distract us from the true meaning of Christmas – a meaning largely overlooked even in Catholic circles.
