Maria Steen would have been a fantastic President. The Michaels know it (Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD and Senator Michael McDowell SC), Tánaiste Simon Harris TD knows it and so do a lot of other people.
And this is why they tapped into their inner Malcolm Tucker to turn the screws and stop any FF or FG politician from breaking ranks and nominating Maria Steen as President.
That’s politics and that’s fine but it doesn’t mean I have to reward it. As such I will be voting for comrade Catherine Connolly – unless one of you good readers can convince me otherwise.
First off, I have known Maria for twenty years. We were at each other’s wedding, I met my husband through her sister (more or less). And I can tell you now she would have made a fine President.
Maria has a beautiful family and we could have rolled her out against the best of them. She would have held her own against the Princess of Wales, the First Lady and Princess Consuela from the Middle East. But this is Ireland, so of course, she has to be put in her place. We don’t want anyone to be getting notions or getting above their station.
God forbid we would have someone from a successful family, married to a successful barrister, who raised her children and is a well educated architect and barrister. There are loads of people in Ireland who adore Jackie O but if we come close to producing our own Jackie O (who was also exceptionally well educated, fluent in French, excellent at diplomacy but terrible at cooking) then that person has to be put in her place.
And they did put Maria in her place, did they not? The Michaels and the rest of them. We know who you are and we know what you are, petty, egomaniacs who will lecture us on feminism all the live, long day. Just don’t ask them to live it.
I’m with Mark Steyn on this – it is worse when the right do it. And this is where Catherine Connolly comes in. I know what Catherine Connolly is and she will tell you to your face what she thinks of you. But what I will not have is either FF or FG taking my vote for granted. What kind of fool do you think I am?
I had all this jibber – jabber in the UK. Oh you have to vote Conservative even though they are a bunch of open border, lily – livered wets. What are you going to do, vote Labour. Yes, I think I will. For twenty years I saw the UK being given away on the cheap, I’ll be damned if I just go with the same plan in Ireland.
And what has happened in the UK, once conservatives abandoned the Conservatives? Oh the Conservative collapse is happening and Reform are ahead in the polls. Now I’m not saying the same could happen here. It is a different political and social landscape but no I will not be voting for either FF or FG in the next Presidential election.
It has nothing to do with the candidates. Heather for instance has a killer blow – dry and does a great smart casual. The other lad I don’t know much about and nor do I care to know much about him. Just don’t tell me they are moderates. They are not.
But I do know this. Catherine Connolly is no more extreme than either FF and FG. That’s the truth. Some people say she is the “Hamas candidate.”
Is Connolly any more pro-Palestine than either Mr Harris or Mr Martin. No she is not. She just said the quiet part out loud, namely Hamas part of the fabric of Palestinian people. Exactly. Which is why the two – state solution is dead.
Hamas were elected by the Palestinians, they committed October 7th and Israel responded. They brought the whole house on top of them and no pressure has been brought to bear on Hamas by either the current so – called moderate in the Irish government to release the hostages or anyone else so this wretched, horrific war goes on.
I tell you now, getting Benjamin Netanyahu on the blower and saying “listen here Heather Humphreys is the new President of Ireland” is not going to bring this war to an end. Neither, might I add, is some mass boycott of Domestos. But I understand your outrage – you do you.
Was Connolly the one running around calling anyone who dared protest government policy, that’s FF and FG now, of plonking IPAS centres in the middle of some village, as fascist and far – right? I don’t think so. Did Connolly label the phrase ‘Ireland for the Irish” as incitement to violence? No, that again was our ‘moderate’ Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
Did Catherine Connolly support that last ludicrous referendum that sought to erase mother and family from the Irish constitution? Nope. Heather Humphreys tried to push that through for FG and again our dear leader Micheál Martin went head to head with Maria Steen over it on Prime Time and made a total tit of himself. He has since gotten his revenge, which shows just how petty he is.
You know if Catherine Connolly doesn’t like you for your orthodox Catholic views, I reckon she will tell you that to your face. The lads though, the three musketeers, will pretend to not hold your mass – going against you but label you toxic behind your back. No thanks.
If you want to spoil your vote, that’s a matter for you but it will not hurt either FF or FG. If you want to make it hurt then I’m afraid it’s a vote for the socialist. At least she won’t get her pizzas to Aras delivered by drone.
A vote for FF and FG means them not just taking you for granted but taking you for a fool. As I said to my old lovers; fuck me badly once, shame on you. Fuck me badly twice, shame on me.
I’m voting for Connolly.
