US President Donald Trump said today that the Jeffrey Epstein case is a “hoax,” while hitting out at supporters of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement who have continued to criticise Attorney General Pam Bondi’s refusal to release case files from the prosecution of the multimillionaire sex trafficker.
Mr Trump this week faced backlash from his own supporters, including key members of the MAGA movement, as suspicion grows that his administration is concealing details of Epstein’s crimes to protect the elite. Last week, the US Department of Justice and FBI concluded that sex offender Jeffrey Epstein did not have a so-called client list – something that could have implicated high-profile associates. They also found that Mr Epstein, who died in prison in August 2019, did take his own life.
It came as a disappointment to Mr Trump’s base, as while campaigning last year, the now 47th president had promised to release files relating to the disgraced financier.
Now, Mr Trump has argued that the furore around the release of the files is a creation of his political enemies, comparing it to Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop scandal. In a post on Truth Social, Mr Trump called the furore around the Epstein files a “SCAM” perpetuated by the democrats, labelling it “what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax.”
Doubling down on that take on Wednesday when asked what evidence he may have seen to change his stance on the case, the president doubled down on his claims it is a “big hoax,” while claiming that the Epstein case was “started by the Democrats.” In the post, he also suggested that the Republicans still pursuing the documents are “stupid” and not true supporters, writing:
“Some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net and try to do the Democrats’ work.”
“They’re stupid people,” he added, referencing Republicans who believe there is still more to be revealed.
“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bullshit,’ hook, line, and sinker. They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”
“I have had more success in 6 months than perhaps any President in our Country’s history, and all these people want to talk about, with strong prodding by the Fake News and the success starved Dems, is the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax,” he added in the lengthy post.

Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans this week appeared to break ranks with Trump over the debacle, with podcaster Joe Rogan launching into a scathing attack.
“They’ve got videotape and all a sudden they don’t,” Rogan said in a new episode released on Tuesday.. “You had the director of the FBI on this show saying, ‘If there was [a videotape], nothing you’re looking for is on those tapes.”
“Why’d they say there was thousands of hours of tapes of people doing horrible s***? Why’d they say that? Didn’t [Attorney General] Pam Bondi say that?” Rogan said. It came after Attorney General Pam Bondi told reporters in May, according to the Miami Herald, that there “are tens of thousands of videos of Epstein with children or child porn and there are hundreds of victims.”
On Tuesday, Mike Johnson, speaker of the United States House of Representatives and a close ally to Trump, told conservative podcaster Benny Johnson in an interview that he supported the release of the Epstein files.
“It’s a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide it,” Johnson told Benny Johnson, adding: “I agree with the sentiment that we need to put it out there.”
