A young man with 66 previous convictions who set upon a woman at a bus stop and proceeded to beat her along with a co-accused male pleaded guilty to Section 2 assault contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
Glen Dodrill (22) who has an address at Old Road, Monasterboice, Co. Louth appeared before the Circuit Criminal Court after his co-accused was dealt with at an earlier hearing.
The court heard that two women were standing at a bus stop on Drumcondra Road Upper on their way to the National College of Art and Design holding a monitor, when Dodril approached one and “screamed in her face”.
When told to “fuck off” he called the women “Two fucking dikes” while his co-accused screamed “Do you think I won’t hit you because you’re a girl?”
One of the victims, a Ms. McCabe was attacked by both men with Dodril “hitting her from behind” while punches were “reigned down” on her companion by the co-accused.
The assault continued until passers-by became involved. Ms. McCabe was “crying” and “in a lot of pain” with both women left “visibly upset and shaken”.
A passerby followed the attackers and observed them going into a specific address. When Dodril was arrested he was interviewed at Ballymun Garda station and charged with assault on the 16th of May 2023.
Ms. McCabe has since moved abroad and was not in court.
Of Dodril’s 66 previous convictions, 52 are from the juvenile courts, 9 are from Circuit Court level.
26 are for Section 4 theft, 8 for Section 3 assault, 5 for Section 14 robbery, 4 for production of an article contrary to the firearms act, 4 for criminal damage, 2 for possession of knives, 2 for Section 12 burglary, 1 for possession of an article for the purposes of causing criminal damage, 1 for obstruction, 1 for trespass, 1 for unauthorised taking of a vehicle, 1 for failing to appear before the courts, as well as possession of stolen property.
The court heard that although Dodril had assaulted the victim he was more “secondary” to the assault than his co-accused.
He is a “drug addict” who spent the “vast majority” of his childhood in care.
Robbery of Daybreak, Harold’s Cross, Dublin.
Garda Dean Maxwell of Terenure Garda station gave evidence of how on the 6th of January 2025 a Daybreak shop in Harold’s Cross Dublin was the subject of a robbery in the early hours of the morning.
Dodril came forward on a signed plea in respect of his offence after two men entered the shop, one carrying a metal rod like object which turned out to be the battery of an electric scooter, and stole items and cash from the till.
A member of staff who was on duty at the time, a foreign national, was told to open the till or have the pair “break his head”.
He was “very frightened” and opened two tills which contained €1,619 in cash. They also made off with 5 boxes of John Player cigarettes, a bottle of vodka, and a mobile phone.
Both fled towards Harold’s Cross and got on a bus which was stopped. Gardaí intercepted the journey and €469 in cash was found on Dodril, while the co-accused was found carrying €1,250. The mobile phone was found on the ground, and is understood to have been thrown out the window of the bus.
Noting that the offences were committed while the accused was on bail in respect of other issues, Judge Orla Crowe put the matter back for sentencing subject to the court’s considerations.
Previously reported offending
Last year, the Irish Independent reported that Dodril produced a knife while stealing a bottle of vodka from a Tesco.
He was further accused of producing a knife with a sharp pointed end during a dispute in a manner likely to intimidate another person.
