A young child has died and three others are in serious condition following a road traffic collision in Donegal.
The incident took place shortly before 6.30pm last night on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher, Carndonagh, according to a Garda press statement released on Wednesday night.
Gardaí said the crash involved a van and a car, and that one female child passenger was fatally injured.
The female driver of the car, a male front seat passenger, and another female child were all taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry, where they remain in serious condition.
No other injuries have been reported.
The R240 remains closed to traffic and will stay closed overnight to allow for a technical examination by forensic collision investigators. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with camera footage – particularly dash-cam footage – from the area between 6pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday evening, 2nd July.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
The R240 road is a regional route in Inishowen, Co. Donegal, connecting Carndonagh to Quigley’s Point. It has been the scene of several serious incidents in the recent past, such as in January of this year, when four people were hospitalised following a two-car collision, or last August, when a 16-year-old boy died and a man was left in serious condition.
