The latest round of Coimisiún na Meán media funding contained a princely quarter of a million euros (€244,287 to be precise) for an upcoming Virgin Media documentary titled Misinformation Nation, which it categorised as belonging to the ‘Media Literacy’ genre.
The description of Misinformation Nation offered by the media regulator tells us that “this docuseries explores misinformation in the digital age in Ireland and the impact it is having on society at large”. Of course, not having been released yet, it is impossible to say what sort of contribution it’ll make to this discussion, but being funded by Coimisiún na Meán as it is, I think we can take a wild guess: That is to say, broadly speaking, that those things that go against conventional wisdom will likely be pegged as mis- or dis-information, while modern, State-approved narratives will get a free pass.
