Gardaí have arrested five individuals and seized a number of “improvised explosive devices” amid their “ongoing” targeting of organised crime groups in Co. Kildare.
The arrests were made on Monday at 11:30 p.m. in the evening, after Detectives from Leixlip Garda station intercepted a vehicle in the Carbury area.
After searching the vehicle, 19 petrol bombs were discovered, with four adult males being arrested at the scene. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, and are being held at a nearby Garda station.
Separately to this, while dealing with the incident, Gardaí were confronted by a male in his late 40s who was armed with a knife. He was also arrested and has been charged, appearing before a sitting of Naas District Court this morning.
“Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will follow,” the Gardaí said in a statement on the matter.
