Election posters for independent European candidate Clare Daly have been spotted around Dublin despite Ms Daly’s claim last month that she would not be using them because of the negative environmental impact.
Writing on X on May 1, Ms Daly said that in the next month “600,000 plastic posters will go up all over the country, for EU and local elections”.
“None recycled, all exposed to the elements, all eyesores leaking millions of microplastics particles into the environment.”
“I for one will not be using them in my campaign,” Ms Daly wrote, attaching a clip of herself saying the same in the European Parliament.

In recent days, banners and posters bearing Ms Daly’s name have appeared around Dublin city, with photos of the promotional materials promulgated on social media.
“Vote No.1 Clare Daly” reads one banner, while a plastic, diamond-shaped poster reads “Vote Daly Europe No.1”.

When contacted by Gript for comment, Ms Daly said that “a supporter organised a small number of small diamond posters for the last week off their own initiative”.
