Swedish law enforcement has been rocked by scandal after allegations emerged that a number of female police officers became sexually involved with members of criminal gangs.
According to the results of an investigation undertaken by local news outlet Dagens Nyheter (DN) some 500 instances of Swedish police leaking information were uncovered in the alleged scandal that saw security related information leaked to gangs.
In response to the allegations, information for which was obtained through interviews with 50 sources from within law enforcement, Sweden’s national police chief, Petra Lundh said “we have been naive” and that the behaviour of the female officers was “completely unacceptable”.
One of the female officers identified as “Elin” is alleged to have met her gangster lover on a dating website while she was a cadet and regularly fed him classified information obtained through unauthorised searches over a four-year period until she was caught.
Sweden’s Minister of Justice, Gunnar Strömmer said that the information contained in the report “shows that there are vulnerabilities throughout our society, including the justice system. And we must look at it with open eyes and take action,”.
He continued, “We will discuss the information that has now emerged, what measures the police are already taking to counteract this type of infiltrators, whether there are further measures to be taken, and whether we have reason to request further measures from the government and politicians,”
30 police officers were sacked over last weekend as “security risks” in light of the allegations.
Other more senior female officers were also involved with one shocking case revealing that a police investigator fell in love with the gang member she was investigating and regularly fed him information on her progress investigating him.
In another example an officer fell for “one of Sweden’s most notorious criminals,” apparently attracted by his notoriety
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristenson said that the information obtained by DN was “very concerning”.
Speaking to news outlet TT, he said, “There are many great risks and one is that trust in police declines, that one gets the idea that mafia-like methods are used to infiltrate law enforcement,” he said adding, “It is very serious and we need to address it,” .
DN’s report also uncovered evidence that evidence had been leaked regarding rival gang members which are alleged to have assisted in revenge style attacks, including four which were fatal.
Kristersson says that he was not currently in a position to conclude whether the information leaks constituted a threat to national security based on the information in the report, conceding that “the mere suspicion of these types of connections are damaging,”.
Leftists mock victims of gang wars in the EU Parliament
When I described the shootings in Sweden, many leftists in the plenary started laughing. This is how out of touch the debate on the migration pact is in Strasbourg. It all started when I confronted Commissioner Schinas who… https://t.co/ELKvZ76N1R
