The final national results for referendum 2024 are in with the only constituency to vote in favour of the government’s proposed Constitutional amendments Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown who recorded 50.3% in favour of the proposals.

The trend became clear early in the morning, with boxes opened at 9am. By 10am, both Gript Media Editor John McGuirk and Virgin Media political editor had made clear that their impression was that the result would be a clear “no”:

As the day went on, results from 38 of 39 constituencies showed a “No” vote ranging from just over 50% in affluent Dublin Rathdown to 78% in rural Cavan-Monaghan. Senior political leaders had thrown in the towel before midday, with opposition politicians laying blame at the feet of the Government for a “lacklustre” campaign, and “no” campaigners in full celebration mode.
