When it comes to sex education, and the more controversial proposed changes to Ireland’s SPHE curriculum, the phrase “elephant in the room” increasingly springs to mind – because this is an issue which is clearly not going away any time soon.
For a long time now, growing numbers of Irish parents have expressed concern over the proposed inclusion of gender ideology in schools (the idea of teaching children that they might be “transgender” or “non-binary”), along with radical suggestions that would see children taught that white people, Irish people or males have inherent “privilege” in society. Naturally enough, many people don’t want their children taught to judge themselves and others on the basis of skin colour and race. We all used to agree that such carry on was a bad thing, and not that long ago either.
