A 31-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Mary Ward in Belfast has told Gardaí he is “not guilty”.
Ahmed Abdirahman, who has an address on Dame Street in Dublin and is originally from North Africa, was remanded in custody on suspicion of murder at Dublin District Criminal court this morning.
Journalist Tom Tuite reported that Abdirahman, of Kinlay House, Dame St, Dublin 2, was arrested and taken to Kevin Street Garda station for questioning where he said he was “not guilty” of the murder of the young mother when charged, according to Detective Sergeant James King.
His solicitor Wayne Kenny said that he intended to make a high Court bail application in respect of his client “as soon as possible”.
Judge William Aylmer remanded Abdirahman in custody, set to appear via video link on the 18th of October 18.
Abdirahman did not speak during the brief hearing.
It had previously been reported that the accused was 26-years of age.
