One person has been left dead and three have been injured following what the Lord Mayor of Dublin has called a “serious incident” on Talbot Street this afternoon.
A double decker Bus Éireann bus coming up Talbot Street around 12.30pm seems to have driven across the road and onto the pedestrianised area of North Earl Street in Dublin City Centre, apparently leading to multiple people being injured and one person being killed.
Bus Éireann spokesperson said that the “vehicle was not in service at the time of the incident”.
“Emergency services and Bus Éireann personnel attended the scene,” the service said.
“Bus Éireann is offering its full support to the relevant authorities and will provide any additional assistance required.”
Meanwhile, Gardaí said that local diversions are in place.
“Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene of a serious road traffic incident involving a bus on North Earl Street, Dublin 1 today Thursday 5th February 2026,” Gardaí said in a statement.
“Talbot Street is closed from Gardiner Street. Marlborough Street is closed from Cathal Brugha Street. Local diversions are in place.
“No further details are available at this time.”
Gardaí emphasised that “this is a road traffic incident”.
Notably, Luas Green Line services have been suspended between Parnell Street and St. Stephen’s Green as a result of this event.
Dublin Lord Mayor Ray McAdam further outlined the response to the incident.
“I am aware of a serious incident at the junction of North Earl Street and Talbot Street this afternoon,” he said.
“All emergency services are in attendance and responding decisively. I am receiving ongoing updates from Dublin Fire Brigade and am assured that the full emergency response is in place.
“My thoughts are with those who have been injured and with their families at this difficult time.
“I want to reassure Dubliners that the situation is being actively managed, and I would ask the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work.”
Moreover, Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan has said that his thoughts are with those affected from the floor of the Dáil.
Meanwhile, Sinn Féin leader and local TD Mary Lou McDonald said she was “devastated to learn of this terrible incident in the heart of our city”.
She also urged any witnesses to the event to assist Gardaí in their investigations.
